Riders trade Darian Durant to Montreal Alouettes

The Saskatchewan Roughriders have traded Darian Durant to the Montreal Alouettes in exchange for a fourth-round selection in the 2017 CFL draft, and a conditional second round selection in the 2018 CFL draft.
Durant has been with the Riders for 11 seasons and played 157 regular season games.
The 34-year-old has a 58-54-1 record in 113 careers regular season starts.
He was named West Division All-Star in 2009 and 2013 and is a two-time Grey Cup Champion in 2007 and 2013.

Arnold Palmer brought a country-club sport to the masses with a hard-charging style, charisma and a commoner's touch, At ease with both presidents and the golfing public, and on a first-name basis with both, "The King," died Sunday in Pittsburgh. He was 87.
Alastair Johnston, CEO of Arnold Palmer Enterprises, confirmed that Palmer died Sunday afternoon of complications from heart problems. Johnson said Palmer was admitted to the hospital Thursday for some cardiovascular work and weakened over the last few days.
"Today marks the passing of an era," said Johnston, Palmer's longtime agent at IMG. "Arnold Palmer's influence, profile and achievements spread far beyond the game of golf. He was an iconic American who treated people with respect and warmth, and built a unique legacy through his ability to engage with fans."

Ben Cahoon became the 11th Montreal Alouettes player to have his number retired by the team during a halftime ceremony July 29th 2016 at Percival Molson Stadium. Cahoon, who spent his entire 13-year career with the Alouettes, joins a select honoured group that includes former teammates Mike Pringle and Anthony Calvillo. Cahoon played 224 games wearing No. 86 for the franchise. At just 5-foot-9, Cahoon emerged as one of the best CFL receivers of all time, second to Geroy Simon in all-time receptions with 1,017 and sixth in career receiving yards with 13,301. He was twice named winner of the league’s Most Outstanding Canadian award.
“I’ll never forget the first training camp we put him in,” said Alouettes head coach and general manager Jim Popp on Thursday. “He didn’t drop one ball the entire training camp - it was pointed out by several people and then the legend began.”

WATERLOO — Boxing hasn’t been the same since Mike Tyson’s reign of terror came to an end with back-to-back losses to Evander Holyfield almost 20 years ago.
That’s the opinion of Canadian boxing legend George Chuvalo, who believes the sport needs an exciting heavyweight champion to bring it back to a mainstream audience.
“Ask most people who the heavyweight champion of the world is and they won’t be able to tell you. I know it’s the Klitschko brother (Wladimir), but he’s not exciting to watch, he doesn’t fight enough and he usually fights in Ukraine or Germany or Russia and you hear nothing about the fight until it’s over. And then it’s just two or three lines in a newspaper,” said the 77-year-old Chuvalo on Wednesday night.
